William Vogel is being sought by the Sabetha Police Department in connection with an alleged rape.
Sabetha Police Chief Robert Wahwasuck says the Sabetha Police Department is still trying to locate 51-year-old William Vogel of Sabetha in connection with an alleged rape that occurred Sunday, Aug. 10.
Vogel is approximately 6-feet, 2-inches tall and 280 pounds, with brown eyes and brown mostly gray hair. He was last seen in the Sabetha area at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 10. Since that time, SPD has been in contact with area city police and county sheriff departments to assist with the search.
Wahwasuck would not specify any details about the crime or nature of Vogel’s involvement.
“It is believed that Vogel does not have transportation of his own,” Wahwasuck said. “As a result, he may be hitchhiking or requesting rides from others.”
Local law enforcement has been tracking tips and leads since the incident occurred, Wahwasuck said.
(UPDATED TUESDAY AFTERNOON: “It is believed that Vogel is not in the Sabetha area but may still be hiding out in northeast Kansas,” Wahwasuck said. “Investigation thus far has indicated that Vogel may be trying to get to Florida, Texas or Illinois.”)
He indicated that most of Vogel’s family is cooperating with law enforcement, although a few members are not.
